Woman of the Week – Lauren Soave

Introducing this week’s Woman of the Week, Lauren Soave!

When asked what leadership means to her, she says:

“Leadership is the ability to pass on the passion that you have for something in order to drive others to attain a goal. I think without passion it’s really hard to be influential to others. You have to want something bad enough to want others to want it to. Looking at the world today and our leaders, I see that lack in passion. Leading others should not be motivated by obligation or money, but it should be motivated by wanting to make something good happen in this world.”

Tune in this Thursday February 2nd for our first Snapchat Takeover of 2017 headlined by Helen Ogundeji, President of the Sociology Students’ Association of McGill University.

“Hello!

My name is Helen Ogundeji and I am a Sociology major, Philosophy and Social Studies of Medicine double minor, and a double Aries! I am currently president of the Sociology Student’s Association where we aim at connecting soci students though events as well as offering services for those in need. Additionally, i am VP Internal of the Black Students’ Network of McGill where I write the super fun, award-winning listservs. I am currently in the middle of planning a Symposium for black student’s groups across Canada and creating somewhat of an internship program for black-owned businesses to work with McGill students over the summers. I am also a floor fellow for McGill residences at Carrefour Sherbrooke where I do my best to help foster a safe and comfortable community for first year students to live and hopefully have the best start to their time here at McGill. Lastly (I know, oh my god), I am a fellow with the UofMosaic at McGill Fellowship Program where, along with the rest of the McGill cohort, I help plan events and discussions related to various diaspora groups (this year we are focusing on colourism from an international perspective). Wow, anyway that’s me!”

Woman of the Week – Udita Samuel

Introducing this week’s Woman of the Week, Udita Samuel!

When asked what leadership means to her, she said:

“Leadership is about being passionate about what you do and the team that works with you. A good leader is someone who is able to bring together a team of people with different perspectives, skills and experiences to work together. To lead, one has to understand the key strengths and weaknesses across the team and bring together viewpoints for a greater cause. Whether it is bolstering a team’s strengths or working striving through downfalls, a good leader is able to translate passion into great outcomes. A passionate leader is able to engage their team, compel new ideas and guide them towards a goal or outcome. This means a leader is able to trust others with an idea and make it their own. Leadership is also being a part of something bigger than just you. As Hillary Clinton says, “Do all the good you can, for all the people you can, in all the ways you can, as long as you ever can.”
